Washington D.C.

The weekend of the dedication in October was accompanied by the beautiful weather more associated with spring time than fall. Accordingly, I made these pictures between parties and court tennis functions. Of special meaning to me was a visit to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. I had served in the US Navy from 1962 to 1965 with most of my service on a destroyer, the USS George K. MacKenzie (DD-836).

Although we did participate in shore bombardment to support the landings at daNang, were given several serious warnings by Communist China for violating what they claimed were their international boundaries, and showed the flag at ports from Singapore, to Manila, and Hong Kong, I have not really talked much of Vietnam since 1965 when it was already becoming unpopular. It was not until this year that I became vocal, joined veterans groups, and visited the memorial.

Some of these shots were taken with my panoramic APS camera. Be sure to scroll to enjoy the full view.
